Luther’s Spring Cherry Blossom Photo Session at Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle
There’s something undeniably magical about springtime in Seattle, hidden between the rain showers and cloudy days. As the earth starts to breathe life into itself again, the color starts to return. Daffodils beginning to pop up all around and cherry blossoms starting to bloom. Those soft pink petals, the way they dance in the breeze, the golden glow of afternoon light filtering through the branches—it’s the perfect setting for a dog photo session.
Luther’s mom is no stranger to my camera. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of photographing two of her previous beloved dogs, Clyde and Nellie, capturing their stories and the deep love they shared.
This time, the session was about new beginnings. A fresh chapter. A tiny (well, relatively tiny) Neapolitan Mastiff puppy named Luther had just joined the family, and it was time to welcome him home in the most beautiful way possible.
There’s something so heartwarming about photographing a repeat client. There’s an ease to it, a familiarity that makes the session feel more like catching up with an old friend—except this time, with an adorable, super wrinkly-faced puppy stealing the show. And oh, did he steal the show!
I mean, just look at all those wrinkles!
Luther, with his oversized paws and impossibly droopy wrinkles, was a natural in front of the camera, even if he was in full puppy mode exploring his new surroundings. He sniffed at the fallen petals, ran clumsily from place to place, and occasionally flopped down in the grass as if the excitement of being this cute was just too much to handle.
Puppies have a way of making everything feel fresh and full of possibility, and watching Luther explore, soaking in the sights and sounds of the park, was a reminder of just how wonderful these early days with a new dog can be.
Seriously, look at all those adorable wrinkles!
We took our time wandering through the Washington Park arboretum and all it’s blooms, pausing whenever Luther decided he needed a break (puppy energy is no joke).
Seeing Luther with his mom, knowing the deep love she’s shared with the dogs who came before him, made this session even more meaningful. It was a celebration—not just of spring’s arrival, but of new adventures, new memories waiting to be made, and a love that will continue to grow just as the Spring blooms will.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky and the last of the petals drifted down around us, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. Grateful to be able to capture these moments, to freeze time for just a little while, and to create something that will one day serve as a reminder of just how small Luther once was, of the joy of welcoming a new soul into your life, and of the love that never fades.
Luther’s journey is just beginning, and I can’t wait to see where it takes him.
